The weekend of 8 to 10 May will be one marked in history books for the dance music community, more than 1000 DJs from 50 countries took part in the Set For Love launch weekend.
Even though The Fleming is not based in Belgium, we have not forgotten our origins. As part of the #SetForLove team we felt responsible to give the charity appeal an extra push with our fellow countrymen. For this reason we set up The Fleming & Friends, a ‘Belgian’ edition with on the program a range of native Belgian artists, with legendary artists but also giving the chance to ‘newer’ artists to spread their music for a good cause.
Due to time pressure and live-streaming issues (yes we all know them!) we could not go ahead with the full program, but all-in-all we had some fantastic artists over the weekend who put together very pleasing #SetForLove DJ Set, musically and visually!
We started the weekend with soulful house on Friday with Wess Vida, a true Ghentian mixing downtempo and house music like no other. On Saturday we had the pleasure to have FATIA (Zohra) on our program, she’s building her reputation rapidly in the deep house community through her love for mystic house music. A blissful one hour DJ set of berber vibes.
Julian Fosk, known from Eiland 9000 and more recently from the ‘Gewoel’ concept by Basement of House in Fuse, opened up the night with some heavy techno tunes. The perfect ingredients for some Saturday night fever! To close the night we had Jochen Robberecht on the program with a vinyl-only set, but due to streaming issues we could not stream his La Bush retro set (real shame!).
On Sunday we started off with house tunes by Brussels native Piccaya (Kosmozoo), two spiritual hours of house music by a man who has played many burns before. It had us dancing all over our living room!
Our post-dinner live-stream #SetForLove with Amare was not your average DJ set, it provided us with sunset views all over Brussels. Thanks to Thomas Delord for this amazing video skills, and to Amare (Audacious) for delivering a melodic techno set that perfectly matched the breathtaking sunset!
To close the #SetForLove weekend we had a very special artist on the program, a man who has proven himself to the dance music community for over 3 decades, bringing forward artists that few labels risk to promote. Renaat Vandepapeliere has been an important pioneer in the electronic music industry for a long time with his label R&S Records and Apollo Records.
For the occasion Renaat used the brand new R&S studio which has never been used before, and thanks to the amazing video production by Studio Regie most of it still remains secret, while they managed to put up a show that has not been seen too often before.
The funds were raised for the charity’s COVID-19 Emergency Appeal to help it’s partner communities in developing countries who are suffering drastic consequences of lockdown. The money will be used to provide food parcels, fresh water and sanitation supplies in parts of Uganda, Nepal, Tanzania and Indonesia.
Feathers Tale and Angelsgate are two causes very close to our heart as we visited them personally in February 2019.
Jonny Lee, founder of LNADJ said:
“The speed in which the vision for Set for Love came together, working with a remote team in lockdown, was something for us all to be proud of. The global DJ community came together in their thousands to create a huge wave of human kindness which shared a powerful message that music can make a difference.”
